Lawrence Mitani passed away on March 20, 2025 in Waterloo, Ontario. Lawrence taught Judo for many years in Dryden Judo club which his father Hiroshi Mitani founded back in the 1950’s.While the Dryden Judo club was part of Judo Ontario, Lawrence and many club members often competed in many Winnipeg and Manitoba Judo competitions and were well known as tough competitors.
He was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1983 for his achievements and contributions in judo.
