Support Manitoba Judo!
Judo is an inclusive, low-cost, recreational activity and Olympic sport. Judo Manitoba is the governing body for Judo in Manitoba, and is the organizational body which selects, trains, and sends athletes for competition nationally and beyond. Judo Manitoba’s role additionally requires hosting provincial competitions, as well as sending officials and coaches to competitions nationally and internationally. In addition its role in training the provincial team, Judo Manitoba provides clinics and workshops at both the elite and developmental levels.
Judo Manitoba invites its members and supporters to participate in the renewal of our sport through tax-deductible donations via the National Sport Trust Fund (NSTF), as we raise funds for to refresh our tournament and training infrastructure.
Funds raised in this effort will support the Provincial Training Centre for Judo in Manitoba, as well as providing support for the hosting of provincial tournaments, including provincial participation in, and hosting of, a national circuit tournament, and/or national championships. The Provincial Training Centre will be the site for regular training by the provincial team, as well as hosting various clinics for athletes, coaches and officials.
Our most important ongoing infrastructure need is renewal of tatami, i.e., Judo mats. These are needed for the walls and floors of the provincial training center; as well, a pool of mats available for loan also supports provincial tournaments such as the St. Boniface Open, the Manitoba Open, the Provincial Championships, and the Brandon Open.
In addition to tatami, changing national and international standards for refereeing, scorekeeping, and tournament administration require the purchase of scoreboards, video replay equipment, walkie-talkies, tournament (pairing) software. While tatami will be the top priority for this campaign, when campaign goals for tatami are met, it is anticipated that remaining funds will be directed toward the needs mentioned above.
