Judo (“gentle way”) is a martial art and Olympic sport, created in 1882 in Japan by Professor Jigoro Kano. It is derived from jujitsu, and consists of throwing techniques and ground techniques (including pins, chokes, and armlocks).
Dr. Kano’s vision for judo has at its heart two principles: seiryoku zenyo, or “maximum efficiency, minimum effort”, and jita kyoei, “mutual welfare and benefit”.
Judo is practiced by people all around the world.
